Master thesis project:
Various experiments have been conducted in the past on the question whether a consistent scene context primes or facilitates the recognition of objects embedded in the scene. Different methodologies showed completely opposing results. Some past studies showed a facilitation for consistent versus inconsistent object-scene relations others studies were not able to bring up significant differences. The thesis will shed light on the questions of the origins of these contrary results. The thesis will stress the methodology (2AFC Task vs. Naming task) which is used for the recognition task itself and the second which factors (Distance of the object from the fixation, color, presentation side, cultural background, emotion) have to be controlled in order to get reliable results.
